Forecasting and Understanding Trends, Uncertainty and Responses of North Pacific Marine Ecosystems (FUTURE)
April 15–18, 2014
Kohala Coast, Big Island, Hawaii, U.S.A.

The North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) announces the Open Science Meeting to be held April 15–18, 2014, to present research results relevant to the PICES Integrated Science Program, FUTURE (Forecasting and Understanding Trends, Uncertainty and Responses of North Pacific Marine Ecosystems), and to evaluate what has been accomplished and what remains to be addressed to achieve the final goals of the Program. Under the overarching question, “What is the future of the North Pacific given current and expected pressures?”, FUTURE deals with three Key Scientific Questions related to: a) ecosystem resilience and vulnerability; b) ecosystems response to natural and anthropogenic forcing; and c) future ecosystem change.  The Program aims to provide the scientific understanding of mechanisms of ecosystem change and to engage human societies by offering useful products on ecosystem change.

More information on the FUTURE OSM can be found on the PICES website :http://www.pices.int/meetings/event-description-details/FUTURE OSM announcement.pdf

The scientific community is also invited to propose half-day or full-day workshops related to the objectives of FUTURE, to be held on April 14, 2014 (immediately prior to the symposium). Proposals should be submitted to [email protected] by April 30, 2013.  Notification of proposal acceptance will be sent by May 30, 2013.
